Deep Clean vs Regular Clean: Which Do You Need?
What each clean covers, where the line sits, and how to tell which one your home is due.
Every cleaning company offers both, but few explain the difference. The short version: a regular clean maintains a home, a deep clean resets it. Which one you need depends on where your home is starting from.
What a Regular Clean Covers
- Surfaces dusted and wiped throughout
- Floors hoovered and mopped
- Bathroom cleaned and sanitised
- Kitchen wiped down, including the hob
- Bins emptied, general tidy and reset
Done weekly or fortnightly, this keeps a home consistently comfortable. It assumes the underlying standard is already good.
"A regular clean holds a line. A deep clean moves it."
What a Deep Clean Adds
- Descaling: shower screens, taps, showerheads, the kettle
- Degreasing: extractor hood, splashback, cupboard fronts, inside the oven where booked
- Behind and underneath furniture and appliances
- Skirting boards, door frames, switches, and handles
- Inside windows and sills
- Light fittings, vents, and the tops of cupboards
It's slower, more physical work, usually a one-off, and priced per job rather than per hour.
Which Do You Need?
Book a deep clean first if any of these apply:
- You're moving into a home someone else has just moved out of
- The home has never had a professional clean
- You're catching up after illness, building work, or a busy stretch
- Limescale or grease has visibly got ahead of the routine
Then a regular clean keeps that standard week to week. Most of our customers do exactly this: one reset, then regular visits that hold it.
How Often Is a Deep Clean Worth It?
With regular upkeep in place, once or twice a year. Kitchens and bathrooms show the need first, because grease and limescale build even in clean-looking homes. The seasonal, whole-home version of the reset is a spring clean: broader than a deep clean, but lighter.
Rates for all three are covered in our guide to cleaner costs in East Sussex.
